Congratulations - how wonderful to be planning a wedding!
Let's make sure your ceremony is everything you want it to be.
Let's make sure your ceremony is everything you want it to be.
Maybe an outdoor ceremony, or a small family gathering. Perhaps something quietly understated, simple and intimate.
Or you might be going all out for a day to remember for all your family and friends.
What matters most is that your ceremony is what you want it to be. What you want to say, do, hear and experience.
Here I am marrying A & G. We talked for a long time about how they met, their views about marriage and their hopes for the future.
Together we planned everything they would say to each other and all the guests at the wedding. The music, the readings, the symbolic gestures. It was perfect!
I am a Humanist celebrant, focused on what makes you individual, and the commitment you choose to make. You can find out more about what it means to be a Humanist at Humanists UK. I am also a friend on the day, ready to be there for you, settle any nerves, keeping you smiling and making sure you only need be totally absorbed in each other.
... and your story. We start by talking about what you want your wedding, or vow renewal, to be like. From our first meeting I will guide you through a million different ways to set the right tone and how you may want to involve your friends and family.
I can suggest the flow, some readings you may like, or music which would work well with your ideas. Although you're likely to have many of your own thoughts from weddings you have already seen, poems or films you have enjoyed. Or precious memories you want to share. Once we start talking they all come tumbling out.
Some people like to draw on traditional symbolic actions which can involve your guests, such as ring warming or hand fasting - where friends and family help you to literally 'tie the knot' using ceremonial cords to bind your hands together.
I will pick up the pen and help get everything down in writing. Wherever we start, I will prepare the draft, and then we will review it and fine tune it together - until you have exactly what you want.
Many people choose to write their own vows now, and if that's right for you, I can work with each of you separately, so your words are heard by your partner for the first time at your wedding.
It always helps to run through the ceremony beforehand, and get comfortable with what to expect. It's a chance to get over any nerves and talk about any last minute details so you can really enjoy the day itself.
I'll be ready with the biggest smile you have ever seen.
By then I will know how to give you 100% support, help you relax and enjoy the moment.
"Last year I married the man of my dreams...Like every engaged couple we wanted our marriage ceremony to be special, and unique to us. We wanted to tell our personal story and speak promises that were meaningful to us, and that is why we chose Sue to be our celebrant.
"Sue took the time to get to know us and to understand what marriage meant to both of us, individually, and as a couple. She listened to our words and crafted a beautiful, and totally bespoke ceremony, which will never be repeated – because it is our story.
"Thank you Sue for listening so carefully and for being able to interpret and get what we wanted to say to each other - and the world - so right." Mrs W
"Sue is a safe pair of hands: professional and considerate. From the moment the ceremony began Sue made us all feel warmly welcomed, engaging us with her gentle humour. I was captured by her story telling from the outset! Work with Sue and you'll feel safe, secure and - most importantly - heard."Philippa H
If you drop me a line, I can send you more details about what I do, what it costs and whether we have a date. Most important of all, we should arrange to chat, so you can confident I'm the right celebrant for you.
